Boots and closed toe shoes get kicked to the curb, replaced with flip flops and cute sandals, leaving recently restricted foot and ankle muscles confused and under-activated.
If you’re feeling unusual strain in your ankles, legs, back or neck this season, try these three things:
1. Ditch the flip flops.
These things are a one way ticket to dysfunctional movement! Opt for sandals with an ankle strap or heel strap instead.
2. Go barefoot.
Build your foot and ankles maps and muscles by walking on varied surfaces – like grass, sand or your deck – when safely possible. If you’re prone to foot pain, start slow or simply rub the bottoms of your feet with different types of surfaces and work your way up!
3. Try these strengthening and mapping videos for your tootsies!
Don’t fall prey to sandal-itis! Build strong, healthy feet to improve your posture, improve your gait and give your summer a big boost!
