I have a secret for you: 2019 is the year you figure out how to exercise regularly, fuel your body and do the things you know make you a better mom/dad/partner/business owner/team member!!!
It may be your best year. Or your worst. But THIS is the year you learn to show up for yourself. This past week, I had three clients come in and say something along the lines of:
“I know I should do <movement / healthy food / self care habit> because it’s good for me. But I just couldn’t get myself to do it. What’s wrong with me?”
We’re all adults here. Right? For the most part we know what foods are healthy/unhealthy, that movement and exercise are probably a good idea and that we sleep better without that second glass of wine at night. So why is it so hard to take the vitamins every day, do a couple breathing practices at lunch or make a cup of tea at night?
We’re going to spend the next couple of months digging into motivation and behavior change – how to get yourself into better habits that stick – but it starts with one thing : YOUR BRAIN. And, for better or worse, it’s not evolved to help you thrive…it’s main goal is to just make sure you survive.
So let’s start with getting to know it!!
Most of us know that meditation is probably a good idea. You learn to quiet the chatter in your head and hopefully achieve a bit of inner peace by ending the – as my guys calls it – ping pong game going on inside.
But it’s HARD to get started and stick to it!! Even five minutes can feel like an eternity when you’re trapped with the world’s loudest internal roommate, the to do list from three months ago that’s still not completed or the sudden need to fall asleep.
We have a beginning meditation workshop – online or at the studio! – this Tuesday to help you learn to meditate, make it easier to meditate or figure out if it’s possible to sit still for 30 seconds at at time. Click here if you haven’t registered yet.
Before you join us, I wanted to offer a few thoughts:
- Meditation helps you gain physical strength (makes it easier to use muscles if you’re aware of your body!), create a friendly body composition (calmer nervous systems are less likely to hold onto things that don’t serve) and make you more productive (FOCUS!)
- It’s as simple as approaching your brain as if you were meeting someone for the first time that you’d heard lovely things about or something you love. “HI! Oh my goodness. It’s so nice to meet you/see you again!”
- Getting to know your internal environment can open SO many doors to an energized, focused, healthy life!!!
This is your year. You get to learn the big stuff – or the small stuff – that will bring you joy and connection no matter how hard things get.
See you Tuesday – online or in person. We’re so excited!
